The construction industry is digitizing more slowly than others. As the October study by Sysoft Development JSC showed, only enterprise resource management systems have become widespread. 74% of construction companies have them. The share of information modeling technologies (TIM, or BIM) is 51%.
Since 2022, the Russian construction industry has been actively engaged in software import substitution. The main task is to get away from dependence on foreign solutions and develop our own competitive analogues. According to the strategy for the development of the construction industry until 2030, software localization is one of the priorities of digital transformation. However, the implementation of domestic software is slow, especially in commercial construction.
What is driving the purchase of domestic technologies
DSTU is one of the few universities in the Russian Federation where the Renga Training Center opened in September 2024. The Rostov company KS-Development helped to purchase computers with licensed Russian software.
“We need staff, and so we decided to train them for ourselves,” commented CEO Daniil Manotskov.
Many companies that worked in foreign software lost access to cloud document storage in 2022.
It was a very stressful time, we were coordinating project documents with the state expertise authorities for several facilities. Every day we missed threatened to result in big financial losses, so we purchased licensed Russian software. Even developers are now using our experience in their educational programs,” Manotskov shared.
He noted that it is necessary to train not individual specialists, but to form engineering teams, then there are more chances to retain staff. Local construction companies compete with nonresidents for staff. When major federal players enter the region, they lure engineers away with high salaries, and when the construction is completed, everyone is fired. If a person feels like a member of a well-coordinated team, he is less tempted to change employers.
